The theme for this year’s conference is Craft, Connection & Community. SIW provides aspiring and established writers the opportunity to hone their writing skills, learn the latest insights about the ever-changing publishing world, and network with fellow writers and professionals.  Cost for all three days is $285.00; single day or single event pricing is also available.

The conference kicks off Thursday evening, June 19th with a chance for participants to meet and mingle. On Friday, June 20 workshops will be taught by John Ellis, Jessica Morrell, Randall Platt and Matt Love. Friday’s workshops will be followed by a reception and book signing with books from Cloud & Leaf Bookstore and a talk by best-selling fantasy author Karen Azinger. Her talk  A FEARLESS path to publishing!  will describe her path from a mailbox full of rejections, to a five-figure deal from one of the Big Six publishing houses, to then taking her destiny into her own hands, forming her own publishing company, and gaining avid fans around the world.

Saturday features workshops by John Ellis, Lorelle VanHassen, Cathy Lamb, and a luncheon and keynote by Matt Love Creating an Independent Literary Life. Love will also teach a workshop on Saturday afternoon on Constructing a Personal Metaphor for Your Writing Life . Saturday night is Out Loud, a chance for attendees to read from a work in process. Sunday morning includes a workshop by bestselling author Kelly Brown Williams on how to pitch to editors agents  and the conference concludes with another bestelling author Cathy Lamb talking about Re – Discovering Your Love of Writing because we all fall out of love with writing from time to time.

Conference founder and coordinator Jessica Morrell said, “I cannot believe it’s been seven years since this conference began. So much has changed in the industry and our 2014 lineup of speakers and events reflect those changes. Our schedule will help writers at all levels stand out and get noticed in a crowded marketplace. The speakers are hand-picked for their expertise and friendliness. They are fellow writers, experts, and inspiring mentors. I’m especially looking forward to hearing Matt Love talk about his career and sit in on his sessions. This year, by popular request, we’ve brought back some of our favorite speakers from previous years: Cathy Lamb, Randall Platt and Kelly Williams Brown. We’re also including Karen Azinger a best-selling fantasy author, three workshops designed to help authors sell their work and stand out on the Web, and workshops that range from world building, to creating a story community, to creating memorable characters. As always, the conference is aimed at giving writers a big advantage in today’s ever-changing publishing landscape.”

Both beginning and established writers are invited to attend the conference. SIW will also feature a raffle with proceeds going to a women’s shelter located in Seaside. Businesses or individuals that would like to contribute raffle prizes are welcome to contact the conference coordinator Jessica Morrell.

Cannon Beach, Oregon is a vibrant community on Oregon’s coast known for its love of the arts and books. The Hallmark Inn & Resort is located in midtown and overlooks Haystack Rock.
